About Lorraine Willis
Inspiration for my work
I have always been moved by words and their meaning especially the combination of music lyrics to certain songs as well as poetry, prose and even random words placed together all of these have evoked strong emotions and visual images for me.
Understanding how we make visual and emotional connections with words is something I am now exploring in my abstract work.
I have painted all my life, primarily self taught, I have followed the principles and techniques employed by classically trained fine artists and taken inspiration from the abstract expressionists and contemporary intuitive artists.
I have a BA from Manchester University, I have attended many art courses over the years recently including a 6 month intensive abstract course in the UK .
I have attended selected courses at the Newlyn School of Art and on line with several contemporary artists. A turning point for me was completing the brilliant International Studio Journey and the Artists Retreat in California with Nancy Hillis.
I have exhibited in London and Southampton and have works accepted for an exhibition in Orleans.
I have tried all medias and styles, finally finding my métier in intuitive abstract works using acrylic, oils and mixed media.
I work from my studio in Sancerre, France.
